Rietfontein (Emilbus)
150MWac
MPower has partnered with Solar Africa Energy on this 150MW(ac) development opportunity. The project will likely include a substantial Battery Energy Storage (BESS) 200MWh component. The project is situated 11km Southwest of Polokwane. The total footprint of the project will be approximately 430 hectares. The facility will comprise a single axis tracker mounting system with approximately 290 000 bifacial solar panels to be installed once completed. “THE BEST WAY TO PREDICT THE FUTURE IS TO CREATE IT.” The land has been secured via a land option agreement and MPower is expecting all regulatory approvals to be in place by Q4 2026. The facility will tie into a new high tension power line currently under construction by ESKOM and will connect the facility to the national grid via the existing Witkop / Pietersburg Substation. The facility will generate 822 700 MWh of clean energy and will avoid 420 670 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. The anticipated commissioning of the plant is expected to be in Q2 2030.
